WASHINGTON (JTA) — The Israeli-Palestinian peace process does not need dramatic new initiatives, Tzipi Livni said.
"You don’t need now to do nothing dramatic about it," was how the Israeli foreign minister said she would advise U.S. President-elect Barack Obama. "The situation is calm. We have these peace talks."
Livni, in New York to attend an interfaith conference co-sponsored by the United Nations and Saudi Arabia, took time out to meet with the local UJA federation. Reuters reported her remarks.
Livni, who heads the centrist Kadima Party going into Feb. 10 elections for a new prime minister and Knesset, said Israel’s message to the international community was, "We don’t ask you to intervene. Please, this is bilateral. We don’t want you to try to bridge gaps between us. Don’t put new ideas on the table."
