Orthodox Union leaders met with President Bush, representatives of the presidential campaigns and congressional leaders.
Lay and professional leaders of the umbrella body for Orthodox synagogues exchanged Rosh Hashanah greetings with their interlocutors and also discussed religious freedom, education and Middle East issues.
They presented Bush with a reproduction of President George Washington’s 1790 letter to the Jewish community in Newport, Rhode Island, promising religious liberty in the United States.
“The President congratulated the O.U. on their 110th Anniversary, and wished the entire American Jewish community ‘L’shanah Tovah’ and best wishes for a sweet and happy new year,” a White House statement said.
