Hamas rejected Israel’s compromise list of Palestinian prisoners to trade for Gilad Shalit.
According to a report that appeared Friday in A-Sharq al-Awsat, an international Arabic-language daily, Egypt has brokered a list of 450 prisoners Israel would be willing to release in exchange for Shalit, the captive Israeli soldier nabbed in a cross-border raid in June 2006.
Hamas countered that it will not reenter negotiations except on the basis of its original list of about 1,000 prisoners, including militants involved in lethal attacks, as well as the reopening of crossings into the Gaza Strip, which Hamas controls.
