A Belarusian driver found a prominent Jewish businessman’s seal that is more than 100 years old.
The oval-shaped, metal relic, used to mark official documents, belonged to Moisei Lurie, an important Jewish businessman in the city of Pinsk.
Alexander Pilipovich told the Belarusian newspaper BulletinOnline that he found the dirty seal on a small road. Once he cleaned the seal and saw the words on it, he realized it was historic.
Scientists from the Museum of the Belarusian Polesie in Pinsk proved that the seal belonged to Lurie, who founded the first plywood factory in the region in 1903.
Pilipovich presented the seal to the museum.
Museum head Irina Demchuk said the relic will serve as the centerpiece of a new exhibit devoted to Lurie’s family.
