Agriprocessors has retained a former federal prosecutor to serve as its compliance officer.

Jim Martin, formerly the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, will become the company’s “outside Corporate Compliance Officer,” according to a news release. Martin will assume his new duties immediately.

Agriprocessors, the country’s largest kosher slaughterhouse, has been buffeted by intense criticism since a May 12 raid by federal authorities on its plant in Postville, Iowa. It was the largest worksite immigration raid in U.S. history, government officials said.

In response to the criticism, the company announced earlier this week that it would hire a chief compliance officer, in addition to a new chief executive officer. The son of Agriprocessors owner Aaron Rubashkin is being replaced as CEO.

Martin heads The Prevene Group, a St. Louis-based firm that its Web site says helps companies address compliance issues by providing a “prosecutor’s perspective.”
