An international business conference in Bethlehem raised $1.4 billion in pledged investments for Palestinians.
In a news conference Friday, the Palestinian Authority prime minister, Salam Fayyad, said investors from around the world pledged investments in a new Palestinian town and in a shopping complex in the West Bank, among other projects.
The conference targeted initiatives in both the West Bank, controlled by Fayyad’s relatively moderate government, and in the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Hamas terrorist group. The Bush administration helped push the conference forward and sent a delegation.
