A section of the Dead Sea Scrolls kept out of the public eye for 40 years is being put on display.

The Israel Museum will unveil the 15-foot length of parchment, part of what is known as the Great Isaiah Scroll, at a ceremony Thursday. President Bush, who is visiting Israel this week, will attend.

The scroll was among 220 ancient biblical texts discovered in 1947 in Qumran, near the Dead Sea.

It contains the famous peace vision of the Book of Isaiah: “They shall beat their swords into
ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”

The Great Isaiah Scroll, which is 24 feet long in total, was last displayed in 1967.
