Israel may demolish the Jerusalem home of the Mercaz Harav yeshiva gunman.
Internal Security Minister Avi Dichter called Wednesday for the family home of Ala Abu Dhaim, the Palestinian who killed eight yeshiva students before being shot dead, to be razed as a punitive measure.
Dichter said he submitted the proposal to the Defense Ministry for legal assessments.
“I hope it proves feasible,” he said during a Knesset speech.
Israel scrapped its practice of razing the homes of Palestinian terrorists in 2005 following complaints from human rights groups. Abu Dhaim’s case poses an additional challenge as he lived in east Jerusalem and was an Israeli resident – a different legal class than Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
