Delta Airlines launched a direct flight from New York to Tel Aviv.
The flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport, which started Monday, is likely to lower U.S.-Israel airfares. Delta added a daily Atlanta-Tel Aviv flight last year.
El Al and Israir also offer direct flights to Tel Aviv from JFK Airport. Continental features direct flights to Israel from Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
The Israeli Tourism Ministry announcement said El Al will add flights to the New York-Tel Aviv route. It also announced new charter flights from Rome, Verona and Sicily in Italy; Paris; Lodz in Poland; London; Helsinki and Stockholm.
