A British Jews group slammed Israel’s Gaza Strip blockade in a newspaper advertisement.
“The collective punishment of the population of Gaza is illegal under international law,” said the ad by Independent Jewish Voices that appeared this week in the Times of London. “We condemn attacks on all civilians including the rocket attacks on the residents of Southern Israel.”
The ad was signed by 250 people, although, according to a report in Ha’aretz, some of the group’s most prominent founders – including writers Harold Pinter and Stephen Fry – were not on the list. Independent Jewish Voices was founded about a year ago by Jews who felt that criticism of Israel had been stifled through traditional Jewish avenues of expression.
