The Israeli government plans to dismantle a large, illegal West Bank outpost within six months.

Appearing at a High Court of Justice hearing Wednesday, state representatives said the Migron settler outpost will be removed either by persuading its residents to leave voluntarily or by force.

Migron, which was erected without government approval near the settlement of Psagot and the Palestinian city of Ramallah, is among the largest of the West Bank outposts that Israel is obligated to dismantle under the U.S.-led peace “road map.”

President Bush’s visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority this month prompted renewed pledges by the Olmert government to crack down on the outposts. The Palestinian Authority has not met its own key road map obligations such as reining in terrorist groups.

The High Court session was called at the behest of Palestinians who argued that Migron was built on their privately owned land.
