Gov. Mike Huckabee retreated from remarks about amending the Constitution to line it up with “God’s standards.”
In Michigan on Monday, Huckabee said the Constitution should be amended so it lines up with “God’s standards,” a comment that drew swift condemnation from Jewish organizational leaders.
In an interview this week with the New York Jewish Week, Huckabee said in fact he doesn’t want to change the Constitution.
“Earlier this week, I was speaking about the human life amendment which I support and has been a part of the Republican platform since 1980 – and traditional marriage,” Huckabee said. “I am not suggesting that we rewrite the Constitution.”
