President Bush visited the Palestinian Authority.
Bush arrived in Ramallah, the Palestinian Authority’s de facto capital in the West Bank, on Thursday morning for talks with his counterpart Mahmoud Abbas.
It was the second day of a regional visit in while the U.S. president is trying to bring Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert closer on a possible deal to found a peaceful Palestinian state.
After Ramallah, Bush was scheduled to visit Christian sites in nearby Bethlehem.
Palestinian Authority officials said Abbas would ask Bush to press Israel on stopping West Bank
settlement expansion.
Addressing reporters after a meeting with Olmert in Jerusalem on Wednesday, Bush said his “first question” to Abbas would be on how the Palestinian Authority president intends to stop cross-border rocket fire by Gazan terrorists.
