The vandalism Sunday at the Poile Zedek Cemetery in New Brunswick, in which nearly 500 headstones were toppled and broken, is being considered a bias incident, according to The Star-Ledger of Newark.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan has reported the incident to the state Attorney General’s office. In addition, more police patrols and other security precautions have been added near the cemetery.

Members of the Poile Zedek congregation are raising money to offer as a reward for any information leading to the arrest of the vandals and to help repair the damage, which could run more than $150,000.
