Syria will break off relations with France over the Lebanon presidential crisis.

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem told reporters in Damascus Wednesday that his government will no longer cooperate with Paris on issues relating to Lebanon, mirroring an announcement by France.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced Sunday following a meeting in Egypt with President Hosni Mubarak that France would have no contact with Damascus until Lebanon’s political crisis was solved.

France has accused Damascus of not supporting a deal that could fill the vacant position of Lebanese president and end a Syria-backed opposition’s boycott of the government.

On Saturday, the Lebanese presidential election was postponed for the 11th time since Emile Lahoud ended his term Nov. 23.
