Boulder, Colo. approved the construction of an eruv.
The measure passed the City Council by a 5-2 vote on Dec.18, the Denver Post reported Sunday. The eruv will encompass a one-sq.-mile area of north Boulder.
The 65-member Aish Kodesh Synagogue will lease the space on city utility poles for $1 a year for the next 10 years. The congregation raised about $20,000 for construction, maintenance and insurance for the eruv, a wire strung from poles that creates a religious “fence” in which Orthodox Jewish congregants may carry and use strollers on Shabbat.
There are about 79,000 Jews in Colorado.
