Palestinian Authority peace negotiator Saeb Erekat will be a guest at the Limmud education conference in Britain.
Erekat, a senior Palestinian negotiator in the current peace talks with Israel and in previous efforts, will reflect at the Limmud education conference in Warwick Dec. 23-27 on his experience at the recent Annapolis peace talks.
“It’s the first time, we believe, that he has spoken to an exclusively Jewish audience,” Raymond Simonson, the executive director of Limmud, told the Jewish Chronicle in London.
Erekat also will take part in a panel discussion on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
Other events will include speeches by the new Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ron Prossor; Harvard law professor and author Alan Dershowitz; and Nazi hunter Efraim Zuroff. Also, a debate between traditional Zionist writer Hillel Halkin and Avram Burg, the former head of the Jewish Agency whose criticisms of Zionism aroused the ire of many last year.
More than 2,000 people have already registered for Limmud, with up to 2,500 Jews from around the globe expected.
Limmud is a U.K.- based organization that organizes an annual conference where Jews socialize and learn about an array of Jewish-related topics. The Limmud approach, accessible to Jews of all denominations, has been imitated by hundreds of communities around the world.
