There is a real chance for Israeli-Palestinian peace by the end of President Bush’s term, Mahmoud Abbas said.
The Palestinian Authority president said at a joint news conference Monday with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice that the two sides would try to reach a peace settlement before the end of U.S. President George Bush’s term next year.
Abbas said that Israel must live up to its commitments under the “road map” agreement, such as freezing settlement construction including natural growth, removing illegal outposts and removing West Bank roadblocks.
“I agree with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that there is a real possibility to achieve peace, and I say we are serious to use this opportunity to reach this historical peace,” Abbas said.
