Vandals defaced a well-known Washington synagogue with swastikas.
A receptionist at Adas Israel, straddling the capital’s tony northwest neighborhoods, alerted congregants Monday morning to three orange swastikas daubed on a retaining wall bordering the property, the Washington Jewish Week reported.
“This sort of thing is so unusual around here,” Rabbi Jeffrey Wohlberg told the weekly, “that we want to treat it in context. We don’t want to blow it up into a major incident.”
The congregation reported the incident to the police and to the Washington chapter of the Anti-Defamation League.
