Israeli Holocaust survivors met with top officials in the prime minister’s office to negotiate a special allowance for the survivors.
The meeting Thursday between representatives of over 40 survivor groups and Raanan Dinur, the prime minister’s office director-general, came after the government announced an allowance that would start at about $20 a month and increase incrementally, setting off a controversy. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations next week.
Survivors had planned a march on Sunday to protest the allowance, which they consider a pittance. It’s now unclear if the march will go ahead.
