Israel reportedly has called off an amnesty offered to Fatah gunmen in the West Bank.
Israel, which announced last month it would cease hunting 178 fugitives from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ faction as a goodwill gesture, has scrapped the deal, Al-Arabiya television reported Thursday.
According to the satellite station, Israel cited the failure of all the gunmen on its amnesty list to surrender their weapons to the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinian Authority said approximately 40 percent of the fugitives, from Fatah’s Al-Aksa Brigades militia, are still armed.
Israel had no immediate comment on the report.
