A German beer has gone kosher.
Simcha, produced by the Hartmannsdorf Brewery in the former East German state of Saxony, will carry certification from a Berlin Orthodox rabbi, Yitzchak Ehrenberg, in Hebrew and English. Ludwig Hornlein, the brewery’s owner, reportedly said the idea for a kosher beer came from a kosher restaurant owner in the city of Chemnitz together with Wilfried Gotter of the Association of Friends of Israel in Saxony.
The ingredients in kosher and non-kosher beer do not differ, Hornlein told the German Dispatch Press Agency.
