The U.S. Commerce Department added five Iranian companies to a list that effectively bans them from U.S. trade.
The companies were placed on the “Entity List,” which names “end-users that present an unacceptable risk of using or diverting certain items to activities related to weapons of mass destruction,” the department said Thursday, according to Reuters.
The law requires that U.S. individuals and companies apply for licenses for any export to the companies on the list; such requests are almost always denied.
The companies include the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Mesbah Energy Co., Kala Electric Co., Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group and Shahid Bakeri Industrial Group
