Israel’s finance minister temporarily stepped down. Avraham Hirchson announced Sunday that he would suspend himself from duties for three months while police investigate him for fraud and embezzlement. Hirchson has denied wrongdoing.
“He needs to focus his energy on refuting the allegations,” Hirchson’s lawyer, Yaacov Weinrot, told Army Radio.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert temporarily took charge of the Treasury.
