Britain’s Holocaust Educational Trust and the American Jewish Committee refuted reports that the British government would scrap Holocaust education for fear of offending Muslim students.Following a story in several British newspapers on a recent U.K. government report entitled “Teaching Emotive and Controversial History,” the Simon Wiesenthal Center wrote to British Education Secretary Alan Johnson that it was “horrified” to learn of a reluctance by British teachers to educate children about the Holocaust because of political correctness. Since then, the Holocaust Educational Trust in London has refuted the idea that the government would remove Holocaust education from the curriculum. “We want to make it clear that our understanding is the Holocaust is and will continue to be on the national curriculum and therefore continue to be taught in all U.K. schools,” the trust said in a statement. The American Jewish Committee is circulating the trust’s statement.
