Prague residents rejected a proposal to place a statue of Sigmund Freud on a
square in the city center. Only 258 people, or 5.7 percent of the district’s eligible voters, participated in the referendum. Three
quarters of the voters opposed the statue, though it’s not clear yet how
City Hall will respond to the vote, since such a referendum is only valid if half of eligible voters participate. Freud was born in
the Czech town of Pribor – Freiberg in German – in 1856, although he spent most of
his life in Vienna. The statue would be of the famous Jewish psychoanalyst sitting behind a table ,
with a smaller table on it and another sitting figure.
