A coalition of
more than 40 Israeli-Arab dialogue groups lobbied the U.S. Congress for
funding. Representatives of constituent groups of the Alliance for
Middle East Peace from the United States, Israel, the West Bank and
Jordan met earlier this month with lawmakers and State Department officials. The groups also had sessions on
seeking funding from foundations. The Clinton administration brought
funding for such groups to a high of about $8 million per year; the
groups have been scrambling in recent years to maintain those levels.
