Jewish leader Kornreich dies at 82

Morton Kornreich, who held top posts at numerous Jewish institutions, died at age 82. He succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis on Tuesday in Boca Raton, Fla. Kornreich became chairman of the UJA-Federation New York shortly after the United Jewish Appeal’s New York branch merged with the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies in 1986. From 1988 to 1990, he was chairman of the United Jewish Appeal. Kornreich was also vice president of the American Jewish Committee and chaired its Koppelman Institute on American Jewish-Israeli Relations. Kornreich, who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, was a 1949 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. He and his twin brother, Matthew, became partners at the Manhattan insurance brokerage their father founded in 1917. Kornreich’s wife of 50 years, JoAnne, died in 2001.
