Arab lesbians gathered in Haifa. The Associated Press reported that the northern Israeli city hosted the gathering this week. Islam forbids homosexuality. Some 10 to 20 Arab lesbians attended the conference, and most of them kept a low profile, organizers told the AP. The gathering, called “Home and Exile in Queer Experience,” included poetry readings, music and Arab women rappers. It was organized by
Aswat, a group for Arab lesbians, with members in Israel, the
West Bank and Gaza Strip.
“We are here to say they are not alone,” Aswat spokeswoman Rawda
Morcos told the AP.
