A nationwide Israeli strike was called off. The public sector strike,
which had threatened to paralyze Ben Gurion Airport and other state-run
facilities in Israel, ended within nine hours of beginning Wednesday. The
Histadrut labor federation and Finance Ministry announced after marathon
talks that they had agreed on a deal to compensate thousands of unpaid
municipal employees whose plight had prompted the protest.
