Ehud Olmert hosted a visiting American Jewish Committee delegation. AJCommittee leaders, in Israel after a tour of Persian Gulf states, received a briefing from the Israeli prime minister Wednesday about the regional situation. “The main issue confronting Israel today is Iran,” Olmert’s office quoted him as saying. “I have already said that we would prefer a diplomatic solution and that we are not enthusiastic about a military alternative. There is no doubt that the U.S. plays a vital role in reaching a solution, and I am certain of America’s resolve to do so.” The AJCommittee leaders told Olmert they were impressed by peaceful messages they had heard from moderate Arab leaders, and suggested that Israel is not isolated as it has been in the past. “I am making great efforts to build bridges to various countries while continuing our open dialogue channel with the Palestinians,” Olmert said.
