An Israeli Cabinet minister canceled a planned trip to Egypt over war-crimes allegations. Sources close to Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said Monday that he called off a trip to Cairo planned for later this week at the behest of the Egyptian government.
Ben-Eliezer, a retired Israeli general commander, has been implicated in the alleged killing of 250 Egyptian prisoners during the 1967 Six-Day War. The allegations were raised in an Israeli documentary about his former commando unit that was aired last month, and which was widely quoted in Egypt. Ben-Eliezer has denied wrongdoing, saying no such massacre ever took place under his command.
