A man being held in an attack on Elie Wiesel was denied bail, despite his lawyer’s assertion that he needs psychiatric care. The Associated Press reported a New Jersey judge denied a request to move Eric Hunt, 22, to a psychiatric or medical facility. Hunt is accused of attacking the Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor earlier this month at an interfaith forum in San Francisco. Hunt allegedly wanted to force Wiesel, 78, to recant his wartime memoir “Night.” Hunt was arrested Saturday at the Carrier Clinic, a psychiatric and addiction treatment center in New Jersey. Attorney James Addis said Hunt was not a flight risk and needed to continue his regimen. The suspect, who has not been formally arraigned, faces charges in California including attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, elder abuse, stalking, battery and the commission of a hate crime, San Francisco police told the AP.
