Swimmer Mark Spitz and broadcaster Howard Cosell were among those chosen for the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. The 2007 honorees were announced Monday. Spitz won seven gold medals in the 1972 Olympics. Cosell was best known for his work on “Monday Night Football” and his relationship with boxing champion Muhammad Ali. Others inducted are Senda Berenson, a pioneer in women’s basketball; Bonnie Bernstein, broadcaster; Harry Haft, boxer; George Kalinsky, official photographer of Madison Square Garden; Deena Kastor, marathoner; Craig Ludin, special Olympian; Dan Lurie, bodybuilder; Jerry Markbreit, NFL referee; Lennie Rosenbluth, University of North Carolina basketball player; and Dwight Stones, high jumper. The inductees and student athletes will be recognized at an April 29 ceremony at the Suffolk JCC, site of the Hall of Fame, in Commack, N.Y.
