New York, Nov. 22 (JTA) — Children from Hadassah’s Young Judaea youth movement and their families have given truckloads of food, books and toys to children dislocated by Hurricane Katrina. The small fleet of trucks, called Caravan 4 Katrina, arrived in Jackson, Miss., on Monday evening to distribute the items collected along the East Coast in recent days. They were met by hundreds of kids and their families. In all, 800 boxes were offloaded, filled with school supplies, books, toys, non-perishable items. Marci Soifer, a Young Judaean from East Lansing, Mich. who participated, said: “This was a life-changing event… to walk into a place that needs you so much and not just to give from the heart but to give them items they so desperately needed.”
