JERUSALEM, Jan. 26 (JTA) — Israel is reportedly asking Canada to grant political asylum to a Syrian and an Iranian held in an Israeli jail. Israel’s High Court of Justice heard a petition Monday from the two, who are seeking their release. The men said they had infiltrated into Israel several years ago and that they feared for their lives if sent back to their home countries. A state representative said the two were suspected of trying to harm state security. The court set another hearing date for the end of February to give more time for the contacts with Canada.
