JERUSALEM, Feb. 9 (JTA) — Jordan’s King Hussein sent Israel $1 million dollars to give to the families of seven Israeli schoolgirls murdered by a Jordanian soldier last March. The girls were killed, and seven others wounded, while they were on a field trip at the Naharayim border enclave near the Israeli-Jordanian border. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the Cabinet of the gift Sunday. He said the Jordanian monarch had sent a letter to Israel’s president, Ezer Weizman, saying he viewed him as a good friend. The Jordanian soldier responsible convicted of the murders, Ahmed Dakamsheh, is serving a life sentence in a Jordanian prison.
