Four Israeli high-tech companies will be opening offices in Maryland after the state’s governor, Martin O’Malley, wooed them during an eight-day economic trade mission to Israel and Jordan, O’Malley’s office announced Tuesday.
The companies are Shekel Scales in Kibbutz Beit Keshet in the Lower Galilee, and three Tel Aviv-based companies: Askimo, Roboteam and Hybrid Security .
Raviv Raz, CEO of Hybrid Security, said in a statement that his company, which develops artificially intelligent cybersecurity solutions, would be opening an office in Maryland within six months.
“We chose Maryland for our U.S headquarters because we see it becoming a leader in the cyber industry,” he said. “Maryland was also the first state to reach out and offer its generous support.”
O’Malley said in a press release that the success of the mission, which was organized with the help of the Baltimore Jewish Council, “is a testament to our highly-educated workforce and strategic location. Israel and Maryland share a commitment to education and innovation, and to making this world a safer place.”
David Butnaro, CEO of Askimo, an online education startup, said he plans to open an office by the end of the summer.
“We found Maryland very suitable for our needs and goals — the geographic location, the marketing and business opportunities there, and especially the connections and help we are getting through the Maryland/Israel Development Center,” he said.
