City Winery International, the company that operates winery/restaurant/performing spaces in both Manhattan and Chicago, is using recent investment to add locations and expand its management team, according to a press release.

The chain was founded in 2008 by Michael Dorf, who about thirty years prior created the Knitting Factory, a Manhattan music venue known for its experimental acts. Dorf is now a philanthropist in addition to an entrepreneur who also created Tribeca Hebrew, a downtown afterschool Hebrew program, and Downtown Arts Development, which produces the New York Jewish Music & Heritage Festival, among other Jewish-themed projects.

The new City Winery locations in Nashville and Napa Valley will each include 300-seat concert halls with restaurants, while the Nashville building will have a winery, the press release said. The Napa Valley Opera House, an historic building that the company will spent $2 million renovating, will offer local wine.
