On Mormon Proxy Baptism

I have only recently heard of this issue of sensitivity for Holocaust survivors concerning temple baptisms but I just don’t get it (“Mormons, Jews In New Pact On Baptism,” Sept. 3).

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I joined the church as an adult while serving overseas in the military. One of the convincing points of doctrine that I found so comforting was the temple ordinances for the dead. It emphasizes the great care and love that Heavenly Father has for each and every one of his children. Why would a Holocaust survivor want to take away another’s opportunity for Heavenly progression, especially after they already had their choices in mortality taken from them?
