I am always saddened when a Jew takes a stand against his/her own people, but I am disgusted when an entire group of Jews turn their backs on Israel and, by default, the Jewish people. As The Jewish Week recently reported, J Street, a Jewish organization, is hailing a recent UN resolution that is surprisingly (tongue in cheek) not in support of Israel (“New UN Settlements Fight Rages; J Street Rapped,” Jan. 27).
Maybe J Street is not familiar with the following statistics. Number of Arab countries that have been members of the United Nations Security Council: 16. Number of times Israel has been a member of the UN Security Council: 0. Number of UN General Assembly resolutions condemning Israel: 322. Number of UN General Assembly resolutions condemning an Arab country: 0. I hope that J Street wakes up before we all end up like Daniel Pearl. As the adage goes, “With friends like these, who needs enemies.”
