High praise goes to Rabbi Alfredo Borodowski for his Opinion piece, “My Struggle With Bipolar Disorder: Time To Speak Out” (March 14), and his genuine explanation of the traumatic experience he’s had in confronting his diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
Too many people are quietly living with this potentially destructive and stigmatized condition. So often when medication is increased and not properly monitored an extreme reaction can result as it has in his case of bipolar mania. What is often seen as energetic behavior can backfire and cause profound destructive and antagonizing reactions.
For a man with Rabbi Borodowski’s intellectual strength and scholarship to step forward and disclose his experience is taking a leadership position in encouraging others to deal with this seemingly shameful condition.
