There is no doubt that a visit to the El Ghriba synagogue in Djerba, Tunisia is an unforgettable experience (“Where To Go In 2015,” Travel, Dec. 26).
The author, though, neglected to mention that the time to visit is really during Lag b’Omer when a large segment of the Tunisian Jewish diaspora comes back to Djerba for a ‘hilula’ at El Ghriba with songs, food and celebration.
I personally had the opportunity to participate in this event in May 2008. Arrangements can be made via travel agencies and tour operators in Canada, France and Israel for kosher food and accommodation with daily minyanim taking place at many hotels in the Tunisian nusach.
Bon voyage.
