Disputes BDS Report

Your article on BDS makes several egregious and common errors. (“BDS Money Trail Suggests Opaque Funding Network,” Oct. 16).

You conflate
criticism of Israeli government policies and actions with anti-Semitism. It
is no more true than to say that criticizing Jim Crow policies in the South
made one anti-white.

The article tries to mystify and impugn the funding of
pro-Palestinian groups while admitting that Israel and anti-Arab American
millionaires fund their demonization with huge amounts of money. Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), with whom I work, raise most of their money from rank-and-file supporters.
Universities are not only often non-supportive but require SJP chapters to
provide and pay for extraordinary security.

As a secular Jewish doctor who
has traveled to Palestine six times, I can attest that most Palestinians very
carefully teach their children to differentiate between anti-Semitism and
anti-Zionism. This is definitely not the case with Zionist Israelis and
Americans, who demonize all Arabs or supporters of the rights of
Palestinians.
