Jewish Communal Fund

We would like to correct an error that appeared in “The ABCs of
Donor-Advised Funds” (Nov. 13), which stated that “Jewish Communal
Fund charges a fee if a fund falls below a certain balance.” That is
untrue; JCF does not currently, and has never in the past, charged a fee if a
fund falls below a certain balance.

As the largest and most active Jewish donor-advised fund in the country, JCF
offers our fund holders tremendous value. In addition to facilitating their
grant-making and providing a secure online portal for all grant-making
activities, we also host educational events and webinars on topics including
the latest philanthropic trends, estate planning considerations, and giving
to Israeli charities.

Our revenues and fees enable us to make a $2 million
annual grant to UJA-Federation of New York. This past year, our endowment, The JCF Special Gifts Fund, approved grants of over $800,000 to launch a
kosher food pantry at the Mid-Island Y JCC, fund start-up costs for a Jewish
daycare at the Educational Alliance, renovate the activity building at Camp
Oakhurst, and sponsor an intergenerational Holocaust program (Witness
Theater) at the Ramaz School. In choosing JCF to facilitate their charitable
giving, our fund holders play an important role in supporting critical Jewish
initiatives.
