Thank you for the outstanding page 1 article by Hannah Dreyfus, “Jews of Color Press for Acceptance” part 1, Oct. 7.
Our Jewish world is rapidly changing. MMCC (Mosholu Montefiore Community Center) is located in the Northwest Bronx and serves the entire region. We have seen our neighborhoods change since the 1980s. Most interesting is that in the last 15 years, we have seen many of our young people marry interracially and inter-ethnically. Many of the families that we serve have one parent who is Jewish and one who is Hispanic or African-American.
Three years ago, with the support of UJA-Federation of New York, and with assistance from Bronx House, MMCC started the Moses Project, which offers a culturally sensitive, educational and fun program for the children of these families twice a month on Sunday.
We need to make a commitment to work with families responding to their needs, not an outdated agenda. MMCC would welcome help from the young adults from multiracial and multiethnic families who can work with us in this area.
