JERUSALEM (JTA) — The new Israeli television series “On the Spectrum” won the top prize at the Series Mania Festival in Lille, France.
The show, about three 20-something roommates with autism living together in an assisted-living apartment, was awarded the best series prize on Saturday. It was produced for the YES satellite broadcaster.
The Hebrew-language series will be screened in Israel for the first time on May 22.
The festival called the show “a funny and moving gem of a series that is carefully crafted and full of humanity, offering a bold new take on the autistic condition,” The Jerusalem Post reported.
It is the ninth year of the festival, which serves as a showcase for international TV professionals.
Last year, YES also won first place at the festival for its court drama “Yes Your Honor,” a legal thriller. Showtime bought the rights to the show.
Last month, the Israeli television series “When Heros Fly” won best series at the first Canneseries festival, a competition aimed at highlighting international television shows.
