JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli police officers shot and killed a Palestinian teenager in Jerusalem after she attempted to stab them.
Police said the teen approached a group of police guarding the Damascus Gate in the Old City on Sunday afternoon, pulled out a knife and ran toward them shouting “Allahu Akhbar,” God is great in Arabic. No Israeli officers were injured in the incident.
The Palestinian Maan news agency identified the alleged stabber as Fatima Afif Abd al-Rahman Hjeiji, 16, from the Ramallah-area village of Qarawat Bani Zeid.
Police also found that the teen was carrying a note in which she said goodbye to her family and identified herself as a martyr.
