Ginsburg, 83, will appear briefly in a Venice production of the famous play in July, ABC News reported. The performance is part of a celebration of the 500th anniversary of Venice’s Jewish ghetto.
Ginsburg, who is Jewish and the second woman ever appointed to the high court, will play the judge presiding over the trial of Shylock, the villainous Jewish moneylender.
The character of Shylock has been widely seen as an anti-Semitic caricature.
