JERUSALEM (JTA) — Six Arab-Israelis were arrested for attempting to join the Islamic State group in Syria.

The men, investigated in a joint operation between the Shin Bet security service and the Israel Police, are from the central Israeli town of Jaljuliya. A gag order on the arrests was lifted Wednesday.

The investigation was launched after Jaljuliya resident Nadal Salah, 23, entered Syria illegally three weeks ago on a paraglider from the Golan Heights in order to join the Islamic State.

Two of those arrested are brothers of Salah who allegedly helped him cross the border. The others took religion lessons from Salah and thought they would cross into Syria via Turkey.
